This is I LOVE LUNDI's headquarters journal.
Here's the e-mail I sent everyone involved:
**************************
Hello Girls and Boys!
I am
blindkingdom's creator, Dominique Ferland, and I just began work on a zine intitled I LOVE LUNDI ( I love lundi ). With this badly written e-mail (I'm french) I am hereby inviting you to participate and collaborate on this project, because of my love of your art or because you're just cool.
By the way: [The word "lundi" in I LOVE LUNDI means MONDAY in french, by the way]
First and foremost, this is my very first printed comic project I launch, so I am taking all the time I need to learn the ropes and especially NOT fail this project. I am planning on a NOVEMBER printing, but this might depend on whatever funds I have at that time and how the creative process is going for everyone; I don't want to rush it out at all, so it's all cool! ^_^
Okay, I don't really know where to start, so let's put the boring stuff aside first.
This is a non-profit publication. But why, you're wondering, am I doing this? Because I want physical, printed, ink on paper versions of my stuff, because I just realized how inspiring and encouraging to hold your own little art piece in your hands. Also, with the recent Side A contest, I realized how badly I want new contests and projects and collaborations, as they are the best way to improve and expand. I thought, why don't I start new projects so I can invite other artists to create? Which is where you come in; I need your art for this zine and I hope your participation will bring you something in return, may it be pride or simply creative joy.
Back to money matters. Tomorrow, I'll call a guy I know who owns a printing shop and ask him what's the best price I could get for what I want, and what I could get for whatever money I'm ready to invest. In fact, I don't have any money right now, so I'll have to figure something out. Do you think you can help me out? Do you have any idea how we could work this out? Share the cost and receive it back depending on the sales? I seriously have no idea right now!! Send me your ideas, I really need them. I'd love a plan in which whatever money you and I invest will be evenly back in our pockets with the sales.
Told you that was the boring stuff. Now to more interesting stuff.
Okay. Here I go:
The zine I want to print and distribute is I LOVE LUNDI , a black and white (maybe grayscale) 5½ x 8½ inch collective of (mostly) comics and (some) other stuff.
The concept is as follows:
Reading I LOVE LUNDI will make your day better, even if it is one of those mondays.
I need a fun, good-looking booklet, packed with comics. No wasted pages, just art and fun; CONTENT. All comics should have either an overall feel good feeling or at least a happy ending; no depressing ending or angry decapitation of the president or moralistic message about environment. You can do it kiddie or mature, but a whole bunch of cute or fun or feel good comics would make an awesome zine. Also, you HAVE TO have fun while making it.
In other words: This book should at least bring ONE SMILE to the reader's face...
What do you think?
...
I'll stop the e-mail here, because that's where I need feedback from everyone. How much are you ready to invest in this? Answer these questions in the reply, so I can really plan this out. By the way, I hope I don't have too much of an authoritative way of asking you stuff, because I really want all this to be friendly and relaxed.
1) What would you want to create for I LOVE LUNDI ? I'd love as many COMICS (or drawings) as possible, but if you have any ideas for CONTENT, please submit them to me, I'm really open for any contribution as long as it adds to the happiness. In exchange for the art, you'd get a profile and a link to your website. And your stuff, printed!
2) How many 5½ x 8½ inch pages would you want, considering the time and energy you want to put into this? I'm thinking end of november for the release, so think ahead and give me an approximate number if you can. So... 1 is as AWESOME as 10000.
3) Any ideas for the financial side of things? I'd love it if everyone's ready to receive a bunch of copies and sell them to people and stores around them, and I'd also love it if everyone could help me bear the overall printing costs of the Zine.
4) Any other comments or questions are welcome, really. I look a little confused right now, because it's so early in the development, but with your answers and ideas we'll work it out and get an AWESOME ZINE in the end.
So, uh, go ahead and WRITE ME BACK, we'll discuss this one on one (by mail or MSN too) I hope you're excited and inspired!!!!
^_^

p.s. Si vous avez besoin d'une version en français, je traduirai!
